radiator fans don't come on automatically

Asked by fallbrk Jun 07, 2014 at 08:55 PM about the 2000 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The only way the fans come on is if the a/c is on or if I disconnect the wire to the coolant temperature switch at the radiator. I have replaced that switch recently with OEM that I got from Toyota.  This all started the front end of the car was bumped but no apparent damage.

Fans should not run all the time. They should only come on when ac/defrost is selected or when engine temp rises in slow/idle situations.

And one more thing,on your model, your fan runs off the head tempeture sensor,in the side of the head. That tell,s your fan when to cut on.
