040, or something like that. Said it was for speed sensor at wheel, cv area.

If you change out your VSS and still no change, you will most likely have to swap out your gauge cluster. Or remove it and send it out for repairs. If the computer is not getting the speed and rpm info, it cannot shift properly. It will begin to get worse over time.
