Blower Motor Fuse keeps blowing only when A/C is on?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1998 Toyota Camry 4 Cyl.

So blower motor went out and I checked the fuse which was blown. I replaced the
fuse, turned the car on (not started, just in accessory position) and the blower motor
worked good in all speeds.

As soon as I started the car, the fuse blew. I tried this again and made sure the AC
was off before starting it and the blower motor stayed on for all speeds. As soon as I
turned the A/C on, the fuse blew again.

Before this, the AC was working nice and cold.

I replaced the blower motor and the resistor but the same thing happened.

You mean the AC/Heater Control, right? That works if I put in the fuse and leave the A/C off. As soon as I turn on the AC, the fuse blows and the control stops working with the light turning off as well.

Sounds like something has seized up, or a wire has melted and grounded out. If possible, put in a new fuse and have someone turn on the A/C and watch under the hood to make sure all the pulleys are turning. If fuse instantly blows before anything turns, I would start tracing the wires back until I found the bad one.

if you can disconnect the a/c coil and try again. If the fuse does not blow when a/c button turned on and the fan continues to blow it may be a shorted coil. May need to replace clutch assembly.
