why my toyata comery isn't starting

Asked by Ranaie Feb 20, 2015 at 02:42 PM about the 1995 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 toyata comery le I was just
sitting in the car it was started and out of
no where my car just died after I seen my
RPMS jump to 1500 . I had the battery
starter and alternator checked they are all
good. My car will try to start if it's in neutral
and there are battery jumper cables hooked
up to it. It will not do anything if it's in park.
Someone please help

Remove the top of the distributor cap. Have someone just barely turn the key so the engine turns for a second, as you watch the rotor. Did the rotor spin? If not, your timing belt has broken. If rotor turns, that's good. Belt is not broken. As for not starting while in park, it sounds like your neutral safety switch may be bad. But as always, first check all for your fuses.
