When to replace wheels

Asked by Insignia_1029 Jan 14, 2017 at 04:54 AM about the 1992 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Les Schwab told me I needed to replace my wheels because the sockets that
lock the wheels in place are worn. Not sure if I needed to because it didn't
seem that bad.

You gotta figure they do this all day long. Sure they would like a sale on some rims, but just have them explain and show you why and how the area for the lug nuts is bad. It is possible.

They've told me it's was just bad and didn't really go into detail why it was bad. I feel like they were trying to make a sale off me.

Because of salt on the roads, and after 25 years of service the wheels on and off wear on the aluminum alloy, the rims deteriorate. Just go somewhere else and get a second opinion.

Have them show you the wear but this is a SAFETY issue so don't blow it off.
