Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello I'm wondering if my rpm gadge  is
going too high compared to my mph I hit the
gas peddle and the cars tach automatically
goes up over 2000rpm and im only going
20mph how do I fix this as I'm getting bad
gas miles plus extra wear on the engine

When you hit the gas the transmission downshifts and the engine speed increases so that the car will accelerate. This is normal.
