Why do I have to change my alternator twice a yr?

So, my 2001 toyota 4runner doesnt hold a alternator for
very long seems like twice a year I have to change it. Can
some one please tell me why is this happening??
Suddenly if im at a red light I can tell when my car just
slowly drops in power.

what brand are you buying ? El' cheapo , get an Ac delco OEM starter and see how that does
