94 Toyota 4runner

Asked by 94SR5626 Jul 13, 2018 at 08:47 PM about the 1994 Toyota 4Runner 4 Dr SR5 V6 SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 94 Toyota 4runner SR5 V6. Recently there's
an odor of gas coming from the engine while the
car is running... also it doesn't want to start the
first attempt but starts on the second or third try...
any idea of what this could be?

My guess is stuck valve or valves check your injectors first sounds like they may be stuck open at first causing the firing cylinders to flood and not get proper spark. Also check distributer and coil wires and coil packs for miss.

I have a 1993 Toyota 4-runner & I smelled gas turned out the fuel line was eaten through by the gas because of the additive. ethanol. The older pre-95ers gas lines weren’t made to withstand that additive so it ate holes through it and it was leaking gas and if you smoke around it you’ll blow yourself up so I get that fixed right away. I had to replace the whole fuel line... Beats the alternative fire and death!
