engine dies why

Asked by pappyswing Jan 11, 2013 at 06:14 PM about the 1992 Toyota 4Runner 4 Dr SR5 V6 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1992 4 runner will start good.  At 20 deg above, and cold engine I drive 1 mile to the stop sign.
When I press gas pedal to so...engine dies...then I crank on starter about8 or 10 seconds.  It starts but
when I gas it...it dies again, about 6/8 times of that and it is alright.

1st make sure it is full of antifreeze, may have a problem with coolant temp sensor, also take the air cleaner hose off and clean out the throttle plate and housing really good.
