Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The check engine light came on-couldn't get it to clear off. Took it too have the codes cleared, they couldn't do it. After several tries it will just go off but then it comes back on again. Hours have been put into trying to find a code or something but nothing will register. The car runs great but is due for inspection. Any ideas?

I will have to get them. I did put a new battery in as they thought it may have been the battery and then also replaced 2 O2 sensors

Also the last time the code was able to be cleared the car wouldn't start with the machine hooked to it so they unhooked it and started the car up and the check engine light was off. I drove it for 28 miles and it came back on

I had it at an independent shop and he's spent hours trying to figure it out w no luck. He suggested for me to take it to a dealer but you're saying that they won't be able to run the correct test is that right? So what or where do I go from here?

Oh I gotcha! Understandable, thank you very much for your help! I hate to junk the car but I can't afford putting a lot of money into it if I can't get it to pass inspection

I'm in NYS That would be great if they would do that and then i can just continue trying to figure the problem out as money comes available

I have a 2006 Chevy Malibu, same thing. Check engine light came on can't get it off. So, I just unhooked the positve battery cable WHILE IN LINE at the inspectors. Put it back on, Started the car up got my sticker and about 5 miles later bingo the light came back on and all I did was laugh!! Ha Ha!!
