2005 Outback burning oil?

My wife has a 2005 Outback Wagon and when I check the oil it was down a quart.  I had topped it off a week earlier before she took a trip 500 + miles - so it burned all of it in a weeks time.  I checked the exhaust and I noticed that their was oil in the drivers side exhaust pipe.  Has anyone else had a similar experience with a 5 year old outback with 88,000 miles?

sounds like your rings are going out.

We had the same problem 3 years ago. The car had just over 105,000 Km on it. The Subaru dealer diagnosed the problem as a problem with a leaking gasket and we paid a lot to have that changed. 1 month later we were back to see the dealer with the same issue and this time he diagnosed it as a blown motor. We had the motor changed for one with a similar number of Km's on it but were back again in two months with the same issue on that motor. Swapped the motor out for another and ran trouble free for about 60,000 Km and now have the same issue again. I won't be buying another Subaru ever and it's a shame because I like everything else about the car.
