2001 Subaru Outback trouble starting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Subaru Outback and have never had any of these problems. In fact, other
than routine maintenance and replacing the serpentine belt, the only work that needed
to be done was replacing an axle boot cover after I grazed a deer on the road. I do now
have a problem with starting the car. It makes a clicking sound but when I turn the
steering wheel to various positions it will start right up. Sometimes it takes 1 minute,
sometimes 10 minutes, but it eventually starts and runs well. Love it in the snow and
handles beautifully on Wisconsin winter roads. Looking into the problem with the "not
starting" unless I jiggle the key and turn the steering wheel. Any ideas?

Recently I started to starting problem with my 2001 LL Bean Subaru outback wagon. If the night before was raining of damp, the car will not start when turn the key. The check the battery power is full. I turn off the a/c and radio and try to restart, still won't start. Then I ry stepping on the brake pedal a few time and restart, sometime I do twice the car does start. other time I have three or time before it starts. What is wrong with starter system?

This was happening to my 2010 Outback in the last 30 days, very frustrating. Finally I was able to drive to the AutoZone & the code was fresh (in Outback computer) & pulled up: Error Code P0335 is described as Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Malfunction. This means the vehicle’s ECM (Electronic Control Module) has not yet detected the crankshaft position sensor during the first second of cranking of the engine. I paid approx. 360 USD (parts and labor) for a new Crankshaft Position Sensor at the Subaru dealership. That was one week ago & so far all is good.
