2000 outback 2.5L. Fuel pressure at 37psi at idle with vacuum connected. Book calls for 30-34.Could higher fuel pressure be causing a lot of intermittent hesitation during acceleration?

No. Not that much out of spec. Matter of fact, http://www.justanswer.com/subaru/73rm1-subaru-forester-fuel-pressure-spec-2003.html ..says it can be 45. (Forester has same 2.5) Other forums say same. I don't know what book you have, and I am certainly not saying it is wrong, just letting you know what I found. Do you have a CEL on?

No CEL. Spec says 30-34 with vacuum connected. Should jump approx. 10 psi with vacuum unhooked. Mine does increase to 47psi with vacuum unhooked. Factory manual specs. Very bad intermittent hesitation when pulling out and also out on highway when accelerating

Yeah, I would be thinking the same thing with that hesitation, starving for fuel for a moment. But I'm stumped, hoped you would have a CEL that had thrown a code. Wish I was more help, best of luck
