Good value?

Asked by Traci Feb 18, 2010 at 11:07 AM about the 2000 Subaru Outback Limited

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm looking at a 2000 Outback L.L. Bean edition.  It has 85k miles on it.  The selling price is just under 10k.  Is this a good value?  I have never owned a Subaru, but I hear wonderful things about them, and from what I understand 85k is relatively low mileage, especially considering the age of the car.  Still, I'd hate to be swindled... Can anyone advise?

That would be a great car for about 9000 dollars, if the car has been well maintained by it's previous owner and you take good care of it, the car will run for at least 100,000 more miles. and since it is the l.l. bean edition it should be a little more luxurious on the inside. I would definately recomend this car. Especially with the low mile. You should expect about 10,000 miles of driving per year the car is on the road, so even if this one had 100,000 miles it would be in a good area.

Thanks for your response. I test drove the car and it seemed to have quite a few mechanical problems and did not drive well, not to mention the fact that the dealer had quoted me the wrong mileage (it actually had about 91K, still low but not what I had been told). The interior had also not been cared for - sunroof would not open, several things were broken, etc. I did not feel good about the purchase and passed on the car. However, I appreciate your response. Hopefully I'll get into a Subaru one of these days :)
