2005 subaru legacy 2.5i sedan all dashboard lights come on

Asked by Brian Jun 21, 2018 at 11:39 AM about the 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First the brake/battery/abs lights came on, then all of them are on steady
except the cruise control light which is blinking. The error code on the trip
odometer is "er IU". The (one year old) battery is 12.9 volts, and the alternator
is 17 volts output. The lights do not come on under idle, but as soon as there is
any gas applied, they come on again. Please help

Your alternator's internal voltage regulator is shot, which was a common problem in 2000- 2005-ish. Rebuilt ones are cheap, and the internal bearings are very solid, so just get a reman and install it yourself in under an hour.

Thanks... took it to the shop, they replaced the alternator and everything is back to normal. Much appreciated guy

Anytime. Check the new belt's tension in a month, as it might need 2-3 bolt-turns tightening (12mm), unless they overtightened the new belt, possibly stressing the ps pump or new alt's bearings. But you're probably ok.
