i have a 2006 chevy cobalt ls would it hurt to put gas treatment in it or just go to a higher octane

either way, it does not hurt but does not really help. if your car has a significant lower mpg, a gas treatment might help but do not expect radical change. I will advise you to work on the source of the problem such as fuel filter replacement , tune up, etc...
