Clock

Asked by Stan Dec 12, 2018 at 03:52 PM about the 1993 Subaru Legacy LS Sedan AWD

Question type: General

I have a 1993 Subaru Legacy and I set the clock to
the correct time. As long as the car is running or
the key is in the ignition the clock stays set. If I turn
off the engine and remove the key the clock re-sets
to 12 within three minutes. I have tightened the
battery terminals and cleaned them. The car starts
fine and seems to have sufficient charge. Any
suggestions are welcome.

The clock might have an internal battery that keeps it going when external power is off....the key. That internal battery, if it really has one, is fifteen years old and can't get a charge to power the clock when key is off. Just speculation.

The radio re-sets also. I remove the key and wait approximately 30 seconds and try it again and it is fine. I wait three minutes and it is back to 12. Not a big deal but puzzling. It worked fine but I removed the overhead light bulb and there was a spark, I am wondering if that caused something to short out. All fuses seem to be good. Aggravating but I can live with it. Thanks for the help.

Check the fuses, Do the radio presets work? They usually share the same fuse.
