My Subaru 98 forrest sounds like I am dragging a pipe.There no pipe hanging. And the sound gets a bit louder until I come a complete stop. I am worried could it be my brakes. And it is beginning sound worse each I drive it. How much is new brakes? Ok sorry , back up. What could be causing this horrible sound. I got go to work and school. I really scared what is the outcome, meaning cost?

First, I will recommend you don't drive your fozz until you figure out /fix this issue. Trying to imagine the sound of dragging something makes me think of binding or grinding.. It could be brakes.. It could be a wheel bearing or something in one of your differentials or worse or totally none of those at all.. Do you know for a fact that it is coming from a wheel area?
