losing transmission fluid

Asked by StarShipSplash Mar 07, 2015 at 03:09 AM about the 2003 Subaru Baja AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For past 2 weeks have added approx. 2 quarts of transmission fluid, but no signs of leaks, no leak into cooling system or engine/oil system? it has automatic transmission.

Was able to get under it this past weekend, no obvious signs other than exhaust system discoloration about mid-vehicle & back Ended up taking to shop, they found rubber hoses were dry rotted/cracked. Lines replaced, fluid topped off, less than $100 to fix. They guessed it was pressure leak that sprayed onto exhaust, unknown why our noses didn't pickup on this, & fluid burned off, as to why no signs of leaks on garage floor. Thx your your input/thoughts.
