engine swap

Asked by migration_Tiptoe20 Aug 27, 2011 at 10:11 AM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Car Customization

I wanna do a engine swap. I found a 3800 SC(motor and tranny,pcm,harness,etc) easily a
complete motor.Came outta a 02 gtp. My question is...will it fit and how much difficulty,is
involved with the swap?

by the time you pay for that other motor and go through all the work and get all the kinks worked out it would be cheaper and faster to just buy a gtp.

thing is...the na/3800 I have in there ran hot and is no longer any good. So I have to replace the engine anyway. Figured I'd jus upgrade instead of going back original. I'm can get the 3800 Sc with tranny and pcm,for 2000. I'm jus wondering, will it drop strait in and bolt up? Whats the diff between gtp and base besides engine and exist?

it will bolt straight up but u have to keep in mind the supercharger if ur grand prix wasnt set up for it u have to try and find the wiring harness with it built in and change the whole harness or go aftermarket sensor to monitor ur boost

sorry again ,no the tranny will not work eather.you got a good idea going but nothing on a 02 will work on a 06.this info is from a guy that owns 3 T-Bird Super Coupes with the 3.8 supercharged engines.so trust me when I say it wont work.sorry.just enjoy your ride.

I have 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 200,000 plus miles. Runs and drives good. Super charger works good. Just put new plugs control module, cam position sensor, crank position sensor and new factory wiring harness running to all those items. It is getting rusty. Has factory mags. Abs light has been on for awhile. Factory power moon roof and black leather. Great parts or whole. Drive it away for the first $1000 cash. $800. If it is this week. Cole in Wisconsin 53065. The kid drives it everyday. 920-979-0808

I am currently doing this swap from N/A to supercharged to my 03 Grand Prix GT(donor car was 00 Park Avenue Ultra) All you need to do to swap this engine is as follows; 1. Donor car(has PCM, Engine Transmission, wire harness, Axles) 2. Buy ''L67 swap'' kit from Intense Racing.com or ZZP3800.com(needed are the supercharger bypass connection and MAP sensor extension connection. 3. The supercharger bypass connection goes as follows; On the PCM, undo the CLEAR connections from the PCM and locate PIN '77'(every connection is numbered from 41-81) then with a needle, poke through the orange rubber seal, push PINK wire with pin into PIN 77 socket, connect GREY wire to ''power-on'' source(alternator) then, using electrical tape, cover open wires. 4. Set L67 engine on subframe, attach torque converter to transmission, attach transmission to engine and secure transmission to mount and bolt on the nuts. 5. Using hydraulic jacks and stands, start to jack up the Engine block, Transmission and subframe and attach steering rack to subframe. 6. Start connecting bottom sensor connectors and jack subframe to body of car and install subframe bolts, tighten and torque to spec. 7. Attach Lower intake manifold gaskets, guides, put RTV in all four corners and across the guides, finger tighten bolts, wait 1 hour for RTV to ''cure'' then torque in correct sequence and attach vacuum line. 8. Install pushrods in correct sequence then install head gaskets and the heads, finger tighten all head bolts and then torque in correct sequence following manufacturer specifications and install front exhaust manifold, crossover pipe, shield, rear exhaust manifold and EGR system 9. Install supercharger gasket, install supercharger and bolt it to correct torque spec and connect vacuum lines, throttle cables intake system and all sensor connections. 10. Install fuel rail and bolt it to correct torque spec and attach fuel injector connectors. 11. Attach ALL grounds to body and to transmission. 12. install radiator hoses, attach sensor connectors. 13. Tighten all 3 bolts to Torque converter and torque to correct spec. 14. Attach starter and attach wires, tighten bolts and install dust shield. 14. Attach A/C delete pulley or Attach A/C compressor , plug in sensor connector, attach A/C lines. 15. Make sure every sensor connector is plugged in. 16. Connect battery. 17. Fill Transmission, fill coolant, fill oil. 18. Remove fuel pump relay 19. turn key on and prime oil system, make sure oil pumps from each pushrod and then install valve covers, finger tighten and torque to correct spec. 20. Install upper torque strut mounts and torque the bolts to correct spec. 21. Prime the fuel system, start the car and bleed coolant system of air. 22. Attach front sway bar, mounts and brackets 23. Connect outer tie rods, sway bar links and ball joint from lower control arms, tighten bolts and install cotter pins. 24. Install strut bolts to knuckle and tighten, install brake rotors, caliper bracket, calipers and brake pads. 25. Tighten axle nuts and then torque to correct spec.

I have a 2004 Pontiac gtp within 2 weeks I spun a bearing. So I ended up dropping another engine in it. 2000 dollars later. Now I have a woodruff key problem. I cant find one for this car. Does anyone know were I can find a crankshaft woodruff key. And how to get the rest of the old one out. And I'm still driving the car.
