Charging system failure

Charging system failure comes on and the
radio, a/c, shut down but the car still runs.
A mechanic tested the alt said it was
charging. He said it might be the ecm does
this sound possible?

Yes it does. Or a bad diode in the alternator. They can charge but not all the way or all the time with bad diode.
