Pontiac grand prix 2004 battery starter alternator

Asked by Evie_reyes Apr 18, 2018 at 07:53 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was having issues with the battery i kept
having to jump start it then eventually battery acid
started coming out of it. So i replaced it and it
worked good for about a month. My car ended up
having a misfire in the cylinder 5 took it to my
friend who is a mechanic turns out  stupid rats
were chewing on the wire. So he replaced the parts
and everything was good. About a week later my
car started acting up again when I try to turn on my
car it goes as if the battery is dead i get a jump
start and the car turns on i returned the battery and
got a new one and my car keeps doing the same
thing. We checked the starter it's fine and so is the
alternator... Does any one know what could it
possibly my mechanic is on vacation in another
country and I don't want to get ripped off by
another mechanic

Sounds like your battery is being drained by something. Double check that all electrical items are off. Things like glove box lights, audio systems, power accessories, courtesy lights, etc. often get overlooked and, if left on, will drain the battery. If you don't find anything, you will need to confirm you are draining the system by having a Amp Meter connected in series between the positive battery terminal and (after disconnecting it from the battery) the positive battery cable. You should see a reading greater than zero on the meter. Then begin to pull out fuses from you fuse block until the meter goes to zero. This will tell you what circuit is causing the problem.and you can then go about trouble shooting components on that circuit. Be patient or take it to someone familiar with electrical systems.
