2002 grand prix has surging problem when accelerating below 3000 rpms. Replaced cat and O2 sensor that was giving code. No check engine light is on now but still have surging. Could this be a trans?

If you have never changed the transmission fluid or filter, do that and see if it solves the issue.

I have a 2002 grand prix gt and I have this same issue. I did a transmission service, and it continues. I have seen that this is a fairly common issue in these cars. I dont really have the money to rebuild or buy a new transmission. I also don't have the money to buy a new car. I have thought about getting my friends 03 gtp and motor and tranny swapping. I just don't have the money. Any new suggestions?

Sorry for the very late reply but I've just been doing research on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with a similar problem it seems to surge between 45 mi an hour to 55 mph just in that range like it's having trouble accelerating when I have it in the normal overdrive but then if I switch down to regular third gear the drive gear non overdrive it seems to get rid of the hesitation but I can tell it's still kind of there but it Powers through it but yeah the whole car is like being held back you can tell when it's in regular overdrive and you're trying to obtain that speed over 55 mph what I found when I searched online is that people are saying it's the throttle position sensor that needs replaced or the TCC transmission controller that controls something in the transmission torque converter or something so I'm going to replace the TPS throttle position sensor and see if that works if you still have the car & still have this issue maybe you can do this and that should fix it I'd imagine this isn't good for the transmission I hope this helps?
