Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 pontiac grand prix that has had a dying transmission for awhile now. I think
it finally quit on my way home from work this evening, but I'm not 100% sure since it has
never happened to me before. It had a sudden loss of power, runs and will drive but is
bucking like a bull, and the tachometer is up and down up and down. Does this mean the
tranny finally failed? I'm assuming the answer is yes.

Regardless of what it is is the car is an '01 and has a failed transmission and now maybe something else wrong with it. Its time to look for another car. It's just not worth pouring money into an old car like that, especially if you are paying shop rates to do it.
