I have a 1999 pontiac grand prix gt sedan 3.8L, I need to replace the engine and a friend of mine has a 1999 pontiac grand prix gtp he is selling so my question is can I replace my gt engine with his gtp engine?

As long as you just use the basic engine I think you should be OK. Don't try to retain the supercharger though. That will involve changing the computer and the fuel pump and possibly other components as well to make everything work.
