97 grand prix cooling fans will not stop running when car is off and cooled down. i have replaced the relay module and temp sensor. that seemed to work for couple days and now the fans stay on again and drain the battery, any other ideas what could be wrong?

Look at the wires from the fan to the fuse box and from the fan to the sensor. Look for cuts, nicks, corrosion or melted wires. Also check all of the connectors and connections. Look for corrosion inside the plugs or wires that have pulled out of the connectors.

TransAm77 should both fans be running while car is running? isn't one for the air conditioning? i check all the wires and found nothing.
The fans kick on when the car gets hot near 185-195. Mostly when sitting while running like at a stoplight. No air is blowing through the radiator while sitting. The fans kick on to suck or blow air through the radiator while stopped. The weather has gotten much cooler and it will take longer for the car to get that hot or may not come on at all. No neither is for the air conditioning. Yes they both should run when the engine is hot but only as needed. When you replaced the temp sensor did you replace the gauge sending unit or the fan sending unit? Sometimes there are 2 different ones.

Not sure exactly what you mean by the gauge sending unit or fan. where exactly are those located
There are sending units screwed into the block or sometimes the intake that read the engine temp. There is one for the dash gauge or warning light and there might be one separately for the cooling fans.

so the temp sensor is something separate than this for the fans is what your saying. sorry i am just a basic guy trying to fix my daughters car for cheap without taking it in..lol
No need to be sorry. I learn stuff about vehicles daily. My kid has an 02 grand prix gt. I know the cars fairly well. If you said you replaced the sensor in your original post where was it located?

the thermastat has a bleeder valve on it would bleeding that help any?
Yes there are 2 sending units both close to each other. One is for the dash and one is for the ECM. The ECM is what controls the fans. So if you replace that sending unit and they still run its probably the ECM itself. No don't mess with the bleeders unless you have opened up the cooling system.
Under the air filter box. If you do have to replace it it will have to be reprogrammed by a dealer or a real good mechanic with that capability.
So I'm willing to bet you didn't chase those wires, LOL? Follow the other sending unit to the fans and to the ECM. Cross your fingers it the wires or a bad sending unit.
The ECM, no not at home. You need a GM Tech2 scan tool. Check the wires first, replace the sender for the ECM then worry about the ECM if the other 2 don't fix it.

lol..i live in minnesota. thanks though. the car sucks and the vikings sucked today. oh well. beer is cold.
Ugh yea, a little far to travel for my daughters 2002 Grand Prix, LOL. Yea without A/P the vikes are not looking to good. I'm not a Bears fan just so you know. All you have to do with the beer to keep it cold is leave it outside. The p/s leak could be just a bad hose. How many miles on your daughters G/P?
