Bypassing locked AC compressor

Can you use a shorter belt and
different routing to bypass a frozen
AC compressor on a 97 3800 Series
2 supercharged?

No. But, with the engine not running, unplug the electrical connection from the compressor. Tap on the front of the pulley with a hammer a few times. See if that frees up the clutch so it will freewheel. If not you can remove the compressor and replace it with a bypass pulley assembly, available from your local auto parts store. If you can get the compressor clutch to freewheel leave it unplugged. The compressor will try to come on when you select defrost on the climate control panel. Hope that helps! Jim
