My car wont start. Everything that takes electricity will turn on (radio, lights on the dashboard) but it wont turn over no clicking or grinding sounds when the key is turned nothing happens. What could it be?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This morning I tried to turn my 1996 Grand Prix over to go to work. When I
went to start the car the radio and dashlights came on but the engine would
not turn over. There was no clicking or grinding noises. What could be wrong
with it that it wont turn over?

Could be a lot of things. First of all find the actual problem before starting to replace a lot of parts. Proper diagnostics will always save you money. Check connections at the battery, grounds and to the starter. A loose or corroded connection could cause that. The starter may have failed. Test it first though to make sure. There can be issues in the steering column and under the dash with wiring. Try adjusting the tilt wheel or taking it in and out of Park and then try again. If it starts its likely some sort of wiring issue. Good luck.
