03 grand am 3400 sfi

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car cranks and cranks, will turn over every once in
a while but immediately dies. It seems to turn over
quicker in the "clear flood mode" but still dies
immediately after turning over. The car has spark
(and new sparkplugs) and the fuel shoots out of
the shrader valve with some good force. I replaced
camshaft sensor and this eliminated the random
misfire codes it was throwing. Only code now is
p0405 even after replacing the egr valve. All fuses
are working properly and fuel pump relay works
fine and the fuel pump kicks on with key in the on
position. Any ideas would be great!

An EGR valve that is not closed will cause a no idle or even a no start condition. P0405 is low voltage on the EGR valve circuit. Aftermarket EGR valves can be a pain in the butt on these GMs. Try this, unplug the EGR valve and clear the computer. Turn off the ignition and unplug your scan tool. Plug the EGR valve back in and start the engine. With some luck the computer will learn the closed position of the EGR valve by doing this. Hope that helps! Jim
