i broke a valve in 2002 pontiac grand am can i take the broken one out and still drive it

NO, need to repair it, well I suppose you could try but I will almost guarantee you that a new engine will be next.

How does someone break a valve? Timing chain break on your 2.2L Ecotec and a piston hit it?

running on one less cylinder will be rough and alot less on powering up. head and timing chain should be done.

Head will have to be removed to remove the valve so you might as well fix it once you go that far.
