MY 2000 Ponitac Grand Am gets stuck in Park

Asked by hbabcock Feb 18, 2016 at 11:05 AM about the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a Grand am. I've noticed that the car doesn't want to come out of park in the cold mornings I am leaving for work. I've tried putting extra pressure on the brake and using both thumbs to push in button to move to reverse. after several try's, it does finally go. but what is sticking? or needs to be reapired?

If the shifter is in a counsel, there is a locking solenoid that a wire usually breaks off. Another thing it is activated by the brake light switch, it may be in the brake light switch.
