why does heater in a 2000 Grand Am GT go on off and most the time doesn't work and it seems to be struggling going on and off

are we talkin' about the speed of the blower motor or the heat exchanger exchanging to a COLD coolant loop because the coolant hasn't been changed seasonally and the thermostat is buggered up?~

the heater fan works when you first start the car for about 30 seconds and then after that it goes off and sometimes after that it goes back on and then most the time its off but it seems to be struggling when you're driving the car and also goes on and off seems like something has a shorter something
