Car jerks to a start when I accelerate after sitting at red light or stop sign.

Asked by Shardai Mar 31, 2014 at 03:19 PM about the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 00 Pontiac grand am GT and it only
recently started doing this. I had the head
gaskets replaced and a leak in my engine
coolant fixed right before this problem
started. The mechanic that fixed it had a
problem getting the car to start after
repairing those things. I haven't had trouble
getting it to start just when I start driving.
The car has actually cut off on me twice
while sitting at a red light. Once with a
mostly empty tank and the other with a half
tank of gas. Does anyone know what this
could be?

It could be as simple as a bad ground wire connection when the engine torques to one side. Have the mechanic double check that the engine is properly grounded.
