Black smoke is typically unburnt fuel. Probably running like crap too. Might want to check spark plugs ect.

dandyoun is right, as always. Running very rich. If your Check Engine Light is on an OBD scan will help you pin down what is going wrong before you begin throwing parts and money in to things that might not be the problem

That one still got plenty of miles left in it. Check codes as fordnut described. This will lead you to your problem.

On another subject real quick. How long since your timing belt was replaced. It should be replaced every 60k miles. Your engine is an interference engine. This means that if timing belt breaks or jumps time serious internal damage will occur. (Bend valves). If unsure of mileage on timing belt might be a good time to replace it and your water pump. Better safe than sorry. Just a thought.
