Besides head gasket mixing oil and water what would cause for thetwo to mix 2001 montero sport 3.0

I had an oil leak coming from seems like
cam shaft seal and had a mechanic look
and determined it was the head
gasket,but I didnt have any issues with
any blown gasket,all I had was a oil
leak,so we decided to do a whole head
job,when all set and done noticed water
and oil mixing,I want to know if it could
be still the head gasket
