probably the piston rings , you could do a compression test once dry and again with a few shots of oil in the cylinder if the oil makes an improvement it points to the rings , it probably burns just as much oil at higher rpm's but you just don;'t notice it ,

is it white smoke or blue smoke ? white smoke suggests a bad head gasket
