Dash Wiring troubles

Asked by Doc_Crankenstein Jan 17, 2017 at 07:24 PM about the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS Spyder

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so here are my issues. I am trying to install a radio. The
previous owner already had one in but it went out. When I
went to splice the new wiring I found that the old owner cut
the OEM adapters off and spliced all new wires directly.
Well I tried hooking everything up cause he at least color
coded it. And the radio was working before it's touch
screen failed. Well after hooking it all up. No power. And idk
how he had it all connected cause it is all a tangles mess.

Besides that the clock pod isn't turning on and there are
two connections coming from there that aren't plugged in
and don't have anywhere to go. But the hazards work which
is weird because it (according to the manual) it is all
connected. Also cig lighter has never worked and the
convertible works just fine.

What am I missing and how do I go about getting this
working

The new radio that you have should have a wiring diagram. Critical colors are: Red to power, Yellow to ignition switch and Black to ground, the others are for speakers. Another thing to watch for is if your vehicle had a factory amplifier connected before to each speaker, then you would have to wire each speaker individually, I know my 2001 eclipse had an amp on each speaker

I remember yellow being hot at all times HAT to keep memory , I may be wrong .Red would be the radio fuse/accessories ,

Nioe, red is always hot for memory, yellow is on while ignition switch is on, that's what turns radio off when u shut off the car
