loose steering/front end in 2001 Grand Marquis ls

What worn part(s) cause excessive play in
wheel, choppy wear on inside of tire, front
end feels like it's floating rather than
sticking to road surface, wanders with little
to no control in steering

do a visual inspection , grab a wheel and see if it moves side to side , if something is loose you'd better take care of it before it breaks , sounds like your front struts are worn out also

Idler arm, also. I just replaced mine. Steering tie rod ends could be bad also. A shop will determine the problem quickly.

Get it on a rack and inspect the front end all bushings tie rod ends upper and lower ball joints sway bar links all of it check the bushings up so you can see what's going on
