2000 Grand Marquis key broken in trunk lock

Asked by Nashdrummerboy May 13, 2016 at 09:35 PM about the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Only key I have for 2000 Grand Marquis has broken off in trunk lock.  Nothing
in owners manual that indicates how to get a replacement.  Anyone have any
suggestions?

Its a RFID chip key too, try using very fine needle nose pliers to grasp the end of it if possible... or gain access through the rear seat (remove it) open the trunk, remove the lock cylinder extract the key blade. The other problem is the chip. To get the security system to recognize the new chip in the new key, a IDS-VCM scan tool has to be used to put the security system in 'learn' mode. With at least one synced key you can set the new one, but without one, you're at the mercy of a Dealer or guy with the right equipment able to do it.
