Can my overdrive cause my Mercury grand marquis to not go into gear?

my car started acting up like it was
missing and it was doing this for like
a week and then my cars overdrive
button is showing that it's off and it
won't go into drive but it will go in
reverse

Overdrive has nothing to do with it. Have you checked the fluid level?
