2000 Grand Marquis Air Ride

Asked by mdharrison Aug 31, 2013 at 07:20 PM about the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The air ride in my 2000 Grand Marquis doesn't seem to be working.  There is no warning light, but the back of the car is sitting much lower than the front(the top of the wheels are under the top of the wheel well).

When I turn the car on, there is a definite hiss down near the left rear tire.

Are the repairs easy?  Do the require going to a shop?  Cost?

I haven't personally worked on your Air Ride system but have seen several on this forum switch to springs for the sake of cost and ease of repair. Search around a little more on here for others that have addressed the same concern. I prefer to keep my automobiles in stock condition but reason prevails and I think most of the components for your system are "dealer only" items and can get expensive. Please don't get under the car in this condition. You could get hurt.

hey tracy gave you some good advice i have had several lincoln town cars with the air ride suspension and when the pump went out i changed mine to springs the new pump and bags were very expensive but for the sake of knowing check the fuse under the hood and make sure it's not blown if so you can replace it but keep in mind if it is that means the pump was working excessively and that means there is a leak somewhere. oh by the way if you are in anyway mechancially inclined you can do this spring job yourself good luck

If your hearing a hiss when the car is turned on then you have a line that's broke or a pump that's failed. Best to take to the dealer if you want to keep the air ride. But cost wise is best to switch over to springs.
