car has power but wont turn over

I tried to change my heater core so my dash is all tore apart, then my
instrument cluster stopped working and it wouldnt turn over at all. I got it to start
one time by putting pressure on the gearshifer in the steering column that has
that little wire connected to it that connects to the instrument cluster as well
where it shows you what gear its in. I also got it to start while hooked up to a
battery charger. its almost like its not registering its in park or something. i tried
to start it in neutral too and still nothing

Check your cars battery, it might have drained recently. Then recheck your work, sounds like the ignition wires are compromised, sorry I can't help more.

It's obvious that you have the gear selector switch out of line on the steering column. Recharge the battery and align the gear switch and if everything is back together properly it should start and run. As this is a 2000 a live data scanner can help with aligning the switch but you can do it without one.

Align the Neutral Safety Switch to get park and neutral to work. Then see if that corrects the cluster illumination. If not, see if the cluster has a blown fuse or a poorly connected wire harness. The battery probably has lost much of its charge through this ordeal and needs to be charged or replaced.
