How to Fix my thermostat control on a 1998 Mercury grand Marquis LS it is staying on heat?

Lots of guys on here know more than I do about this. Vacuum hoses, stuck diverter door, controller, lots of different possibilites. One solution involves removing the dash, one can be done through the glove box, with skinned knuckles.
