Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1993 Lincoln's lights are doing the same thing. If I turn on the high beams, they start to flash then eventually turn off. My low beams also turn off by theirselves while driving at night. If I hold the "flash to pass" the high beams work then eventually the low beams work for a little while. The dealership says that a 1993 doesn't list an LCM for that year, I looked for it and cant find one, and couldn't find one on my 1990 either. I installed a new multifunction switch (turn signal) and a new headlight switch. My 1993 has "auto dim" and digital dash. So.... anymore ideas that I can be the guinea pig for everyone else that's having this problem?

This sounds like a resetting type circuit breakerproblem to me. Most intelligent manufacturers use self resetting circuit breakers instead of one-shot fuses, in the headlight circuits. The reason? If there's an overload, a fuse, by working as deigned, will burn out. But you NEED headlights at 70 mph on the freeway in a snow storm! Enter a self- resetting circuit breaker that will at least give you flashing lights to stop under more controlled conditions. I'd be looking for a partial short-to-ground, low voltage/high amps or heavier than normal current to the lighting circircuit. I do not remember if FMC uses circuit breakers in your car for sure. Check it out.
