How do you know when your transferbox needs replacing

Hi thanks for your replie I ask as when I get to 50-60 there's a funny noise then it gossip a it speed up or slow down

My Jeep has 156,000 miles and I can sometimes hear the rear differential humming at that speed. I service everything religiously and it's been that way ten years. Probably always will. Check your fluids.Transfer cases usually fail when you hear a huge crunching sound. That's not good.
