the rear hatch on my 04 grand Cherokee only opens 4", the latch seems to work fine but the hatch will not open more than 4". Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

It must be those hydraulic cylinders jamming up unless there is some damage to the hinges or the hatch itself.

already took care of it but you are correct it was the hydraulics.This car has been sitting for a while. luckily I could open far enough to unbolt thanks

    The hatch window was replaced and now it won't stay closed. It will go down and you can hear the lock but it will pop open again when driving.
