What would cause my freon to go low after my radiator fan going out asi from a leak?

A/c was in good working condition. Recently my radiator fan relay went out.
After i repaired it the a/c was not working any longer. It turned out that the
freon had hit a low level which caused the clutch not to engage. Can the fan
breaking have caused a leak? Thank you in advance.
