when i make a left turn in my jeep cherokee the rpm's rev to 4000. is it my transmission? thanks

when i take my foot off the gas it will catch itself with a jolt.

I had a '59 pontiac that'd do that...if you went to far the linkage would flex to FULL acceleration and only the ignition key could save you~....when it settled down would return to normal...it was the motor mount~
