2001 Grand Cherokeeg AC issue

Asked by Peter Jul 15, 2018 at 03:58 PM about the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 Grand Cherokee is not getting cool air. Took it the the garage and they
told me getting negative readings from the high and low lines. Also
compressor is not kicking in all the time. Jiggle the wire and presto it works.
Any advice guys?

I think they mean low readings on the high and low sides. Negative is a vacuum. Anyway, if the compressor kicks in, you have some refrigerant in the system and the components are all there and working. Get those wires fixed and get the charge topped off correctly using gauges. I think it will then run okay based on what you said. Watch how it's done and any shade tree mechanic can do it himself next time. That's how I learned 30 years ago using R12, now it's 134a. It's not rocket science.
