just replaced rear upper control arm and ball joint now getting bang when releases brakes

Everything properly installed and torqued? Go back over the job, piece by piece to see if evrything is in order. Start there if you didn't experience the "bang " before the repair

noise has gotten louder over the two weeks since job was done mechanic thought it be other bushings now becoming evident that they need replacing!

Might be prudent to do so. After all, your Grand is no longer a spring chicken, being a '99. Also check your shocks/bushings and your track(Panhard) bar bushings as these frequently wear and cause a variety of handling/noise issues
